My Teaching Philosophy.

“Be the teacher that you needed growing up”
As an aspiring teacher and educator, I believe it is important to demonstrate the qualities that my younger self would have benefitted from in school. This includes fostering a positive classroom community, practicing student centred learning, prioritizing a growth mindset, and always demonstrating inclusion.
Classroom Community- I want all students to know that their opinions and beliefs are valued and respected. Learning is a collaborative effort, and I believe that educators, peers, and families should be involved in this process. Personally, the most important aspect of teaching is creating meaningful relationships with students. Relationships establish trust, safe communication, and encourage a positive classroom atmosphere.
Student Centred Learning- I believe in the importance of meeting a child where they are at both academically, and emotionally, while catering to diverse needs. Children learn best when engaging in active learning experiences, not while sitting in a desk. I aspire to create a stimulating educational environment where students can grow physically, mentally, emotionally, and socially. I want to foster a safe and positive atmosphere where children are encouraged to meet their fullest potential.
Prioritizing a Growth Mindset- I want to create experiences where my students are winning. I plan to do this by pairing a high academic standard with joy of being in the classroom. Demonstrating a growth mindset in the classroom will help students recognize that mistakes are a positive step in the learning process and creates resilient learners. I believe that a growth mindset can help students discover their sense of self and explore their identity while navigating influential stages of their lives. As their teacher, my job is to create a safe and encouraging environment to do so.
Inclusion- I believe in creating a classroom where all students feel a sense of belonging. This means recognizing and celebrating my students' diverse cultures, identities, and abilities in my class. I strive to create a space where all voices are not only heard but validated. I feel incredibly privileged for my position to support children’s growth both academically and as individuals with unique talents, challenges, and perspectives.
