Introducing Me.
Hello!
My name is Abbey Ford and I am excited to embark on this journey of education! I was born and raised here in Lethbridge and graduated from Chinook High School in 2021. In 2022 I began my university career, entering into the faculty of Arts and Science, majoring in Kinesiology, as well as the faculty of Education. My background as a competitive dancer, and dance teacher heavily influenced my desire to explore a degree that balanced both movement and teaching. I am looking forward to embarking on this new journey of my education during my first Professional Semester.
My initial spark for teaching began in middle school when started mentoring under my dance teachers as a student assistant at my home studio, Exisdance. I instantly fell in love with the art of teaching and helping students grow into their fullest potential, both as humans and dancers. During the 11th grade, I began teaching a few baby ballet classes independently which only catalyzed my passion for teaching. I have now been teaching at Exisdance for the last 6 years and my love for this profession multiplies each season.
I am immensely grateful to have dance in my life as it has taught me so many skills that extend beyond dancing. It has taught me the value of teamwork, patience, self expression, and creativity, which are all concepts that I hope to incorporate into my future classroom. My favourite part of this job is watching how much joy that movement can bring into children’s lives. I hope that my experience teaching at the studio will help me feel more comfortable in a school classroom environment.
I am eager to create a classroom community that reflects my values as new educator. These values include leading with love, kindness, and passion. My goal as an educator is to be the teacher I needed growing up, which is the backbone of my evolving teaching philosophy. Ultimately, I hope to share my love for teaching while inspiring the next generation of learners. I am grateful for this opportunity and excited to see where it takes me!
